High Quality for Peak Performance
A wire rope sheave is only as good as the quality of its components. From solid steel body and flame hardened grove to bronze and roller bearings, the QSheave™ product line will perform in your application. Whether a new installation or a replacement sheaves, you can count on the components we use. Learn more about what we offer below.
Bearings, Seals, and Shafts
Bronze Bushings
Bronze Bushings are limited to moderate loads, slow speeds and low usage. All QSheaves™ bronze bushed sheaves come standard with 932 bronze (SAE 660) bushings having a Figure 8 Grease Groove. Shaft size, hub width and sheave RPM determines load capacity. Refer to our PV calculation sheets to determine load capacity for your specific application.
841 Alloy Bronze Bushings
841 Alloy Bronze Bushiongs are oil-impregnated bushings that eliminate the need for periodic lubrication but at the expense of load capacity. Generally, an 841 bushing has only half the load capacity of 932 bronze. 841 bushings are available for many of the bronze-bushed QSheaves™ at no extra cost but may delay shipping up to three additional days. Recommended shafts for both types of bronze bushings are cold finished shafts such as TG&P, finished one tothree thousands under nominal shaft size.
Roller Bearings
All QSheaves™ Roller Bearings are McGill MR Series cylindrical roller bearings. These bearings are for heavier loads, higher speeds and more frequent usage than bushings. We offer four varieties. Standard are double sealed roller bearing with inner race and double sealed roller bearings with no inner race. Our roller bearing calculation sheets allow you to determine expected life of roller bearings based on speed and load.
Double Sealed Roller Bearing with Inner Race
Double Sealed Roller Bearing with Innner Race is recommended for most applications and are our most popular QSheaves™. These sheaves use standard shafting with no special finish requirements. The seals are primarily to retain the lubricant in the bearing. Harsh environments may require additional seals. Contact us for advice in these cases.
Unsealed Roller Bearing with Inner Race
Unsealed Roller Bearing with Inner Race have a 25% higher load capacity than sealed bearings. Always replace sheaves having unsealed bearings with sheaves having the same unsealed bearings. It is very common for equipment manufacturers to provide other means of retaining lubricant in the bearings. Unsealed roller bearings are available at no extra cost, usually with minimal shipping delay.
Double Sealed Roller Bearing without Inner Race
Double Sealed Roller Bearing without Inner Race requires a ground shaft with a minimum hardness of Rockwell 58C. These replace the same type of bearing in blocks and similar applications.
Unsealed Roller Bearing without Inner Race
Unsealed Roller Bearing with Inner Race have a 25% higher load capacity than sealed bearings. Always replace sheaves having unsealed bearings with sheaves having the same unsealed bearings. Unsealed roller bearings are available at no extra cost, usually with minimal shipping delay
Note: When replacing existing sheaves we strongly recommend staying with the same bearing type and size as originally used. The original equipment designers balanced bearing size and type with other factors to achieve a desired result. Changing just one element, the bearing, without knowing the other factors, can make equipment unsafe or unreliable or both.
